A wonderful new machine has been invented that will be for sale starting at the end of 2014. The ChefJet was created by The Sugar Lab and 3D Experts 3D Systems. It is a 3D food printer used for creating sugar cake toppings. The software will help one get started with the size and general shape of the sugar cake topper desired. Then one can customize the complexity of the shape, but this takes some skill that only very experienced chefs can use. The machine has various colors and flavors one can choose from. The ChefJet spreads a fine coat of powder sugar on its printing surface, and then the machine sprays water on the sugar. The sugar crystalizes and hardens into the shape programmed into the machine. The process repeats itself until the sugar is complete. The machine has a price of $5,000- $10,000, so it will appeal more to professionals.
The ChefJet is an incredible machine. I think it is absolutely amazing that food can be printed. It really brings an industrial aspect to cooking. I love to bake cakes from scratch, and I believe that these decorations give cakes a very modern and clean look. The detail that these decorations has is breathtaking. I wish I could have one, but they are definitely way too expensive. What do you think about printable food?

Guess who saving up for this machine? Printable cake toppings is the best invention ever made! I love baking myself, but could never master the décor. Knowing there are printable toppings just makes life a breeze. People always say "when life gives you lemons make lemonade", but in this case it is "when life gives you a sugar printer, save up money".I literally just did the calculations and everyday I give myself 14 bucks in one year I could buy a printer! For now I will stick with the basics. Sugar and printing in one phrase gets me ready to cook. I hope they could have an opening day so everyone could try it out. I love this post!
ReplyDeleteThis product sounds amazing! If I had enough money, I would buy this in a heartbeat. Although, I am not the best baker or chef in the world, but I do enjoy baking, and it is always a pain to make all of the different decorations you want. What amazes me is the intricate design the little sugar pieces had. I think this invention is absolutely modern day technology, and will enhance the cooking nation with many more food inventions.
ReplyDeleteI would love to purchase one of these! I have taken on the liking of baking thanks to my mom. I know it is annoying having to do all these designs so this machine would be perfect! I will be sure to save for this in the future! It will be a great investment not only for me but for other people who enjoy baking also. I may just have to buy two so I can give one to my mom.
ReplyDeleteThis is the coolest thing I had ever heard of. We should buy one of these with the money we raise on the honors team. haha. But I would definitely get one of these if they were cheaper. The people that made these are geniuses and are going to make a ton of money. It is a very cool invention. Keep up the great articles!

DeleteThis is pretty cool! However, is it safe to eat printed cake toppings? What if there is a malfunction in the machine and you end up eating messesd up and maybe even non-edible cake decorations? Being that this is extremely pricey, it should be good quality. But I would never know that because I don't have that kind of money. Manufacturers have started with cake decorations, but eventually this will be how our every day meals will be made.
